Clinical Supervision

Engaging in regular clinical supervision is best practice for psychologists and an essential part of continuing professional development and registration. It is also an important resource for other mental health practitioners, therapists and leaders.

Clinical supervision can help you reflect on practice, develop skills, collaborate on decision making, assess risk, take care of yourself and stay effective in your role.

We have three Board Approved Clinical Supervisors on the team to choose from, each with many years of knowledge and practice in a diverse range of areas.

Please see the clinical supervision profiles below to help you consider who might be right for you.

Mark Baxter

I’m a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor and supporting other psychologists, therapists, leaders and mental health practitioners is one of the most enjoyable parts of my work. I’ve been providing clinical supervision for over a decade and think of it as its own discipline, requiring unique skills and spirit that is different to usual work.

I am most interested in clinical supervision with experienced practitioners who want a place to reflect deeply on their work and are interested in the nexus between their professional identity and their personal, relational self. This form of exploration is important in understanding our therapeutic style, counter-transference, biases and blind spots.

My supervision style is influenced by Internal Family Systems (IFS) and invites exploration of “therapist parts” and their contributions to our work. I am also interested in supporting therapists on their own journey of learning Internal Family Systems therapy. I’m a Level 2 trained IFS therapist and enrolled to complete Level 3 in August 2024.

I’m an EMDR Accredited Practitioner (EMDRAA) with additional training in Attachment-Informed EMDR and can provide supervision that helps with implementing this trauma-specific approach into your therapeutic style. I also have years of practice and training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).

The “art and craft of private practice” is another area that may be of benefit in clinical supervision. I’ve been the director of a group private practice for over 7 years, have learnt a lot in this time, and am open to sharing everything that I have discovered.

Lastly, I have a special interest in the prevention of, and recovery after burnout. Known by many names but seldom spoken about openly; burnout is a reality in our profession that needs to be understood and respected. Whether it’s vicarious trauma, secondary trauma, compassion fatigue, chronic stress or emotional exhaustion; I provide a safe and compassionate place to explore this important topic.

I’m a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor offering support, guidance and reflective practice for psychologists, therapists and other practitioners in helping roles. I value the co-creation of a supervision space that opens up opportunity for safe self-enquiry, thoughtful reflection, and noticing the full spectrum of practitioner experiences in the therapeutic role - from moments of growth to moments of doubt.

In my own practice as a therapist, I adore using the IFS model, and find this to be a particularly helpful offering within the supervision setting; getting to know and appreciate the multiple viewpoints and qualities which go together in this helping version of ourselves. Working with these ‘parts’ can support a unique way of understanding and growing, and bring compassionate meaning to our experiences as practitioners.

Over many years I’ve been connected to systems of care-giving; working within families, schools, organisations and clinical teams; across private, government and non-profit settings. This has allowed me to develop an appreciation for the varied contributions practitioners offer within these work environments. I’ve developed a broad perspective of how practitioners can most effectively navigate the often complex web of supports around a client. This is an invaluable aspect of clinical supervision for people working within multi-agency systems.

Another aspect I offer in supervision is an emphasis on cultivating creativity in therapeutic practice; finding the courage to weave different art forms, movement and playfulness into the work. I particularly enjoy bringing this to life for practitioners who are feeling stale or stuck in their practice.

Monika Gulabovska

I’m a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor who provides supervision to early career psychologists and provisional psychologists undertaking the 4+2 or 5+1 pathway. I offer tailored professional mentoring to help psychologists recognise their unique strengths and cultivate a sense of confidence as clinicians. I provide a space to reflect on practice, collaborate on clinical decision making, develop skills and core competencies, and hone capacity to engage in effective self-care. I enjoy supporting psychologists early in their career to help them find a style of working that feels authentic to them.

I have clinical experience working with children, adolescents, adults and couples. I’ve worked as a psychologist in several settings including private practice, tertiary academic, primary and high schools. I’ve also run professional development training in the education sector, and for provisional psychologists completing their registration.

I am influenced by a range of therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Emotionally Focussed Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI).

My approach to supervision would suit psychologists with an interest in a collaborative style with a mix between exploration and skill development. For provisional psychologists, I aim to strike a balance between progress towards registration and developing competencies, alongside a flexible approach that acknowledges the many demands interns need to navigate.
