People seek support from a psychologist for a range of reasons. You might need help with a mental health problem, personal crisis, difficult transition, significant loss, or a challenging relationship. You might be feeling stuck and looking for guidance to make positive changes in your life.

Seeing a psychologist can really help

If it’s a mental health problem you are experiencing, we offer evidence-based psychological therapy that can help you find relief. Many people struggle to recover on their own and seeing a psychologist can really help. We work in collaboration with you to find a way through mental health problems and towards emotional and social wellbeing.

Seeing a psychologist is an effective way to help you through struggle, stuckness and transition. It can help you change the ways you are thinking, feeling and behaving. It’s an opportunity to get clarity, connect with your values and to reconnect with what matters to you.

It’s important to find the right psychologist

Finding a psychologist is not always easy.  It can be daunting trying to find someone that’s a good fit, especially if you are stressed or feel like you've tried before.  At The Psychology Spot we have 10 psychologists you can choose from, each with a different approach and a unique set of skills.

Our psychologists individualise each session and work in partnership with you until you feel psychologically healthy and confident in the strategies that you’ve learnt.

We have an experienced team of skilled and compassionate psychologists in Wollongong offering services to adults, adolescents, children and couples. You can be certain that you'll be offered a personable, professional service.  We really care about the work we do and will support you until things improve.

We offer telehealth appointments for those outside of Wollongong, or for people that prefer this way of connecting.

What to expect in the first session

Many people who see a psychologist for the first time feel nervous.  You may not know where to start, what to say or what you are wanting.  This is very normal and it’s our job to guide this process.  Your psychologist will provide a structure that will make it easy for you to get the most out of the time.  By the end of the first session you’ll have:

  • A feeling of being really listened to and understood

  • Clarity about the areas you and your psychologist will focus on together

  • Some ideas from your psychologist about how you might start to work on these areas

  • Confidence about confidentiality and the privacy of your information

  • A sense of the number of sessions required

  • A chance to ask any questions

  • More hope or optimism that things can improve

Everybody is unique and we match what we do with what you need. We are interested in your strengths and values as much as the things you’d like to change
